Most Popular New Year's Resolution, Always and Forever

Many things come to mind when thinking of New Year's: parties, champagne, Dick Clark, bowl games, and enough food to fill you for the entire year. But, the one thing that also almost always comes up in conversation on New Year's is resolutions. There are many resolutions that people come up with for New Year's including vows of success or self-improvement; however, the one resolution that most people swear to fulfill is to lose weight.

Many reasons attribute to people making resolutions of losing weight. Some do it because they are very unhappy with their appearances and want to make themselves look more appealing to their friends, families, and co-workers. Others have health issues related to their obesity and feel the necessity to lose weight because they either feel lousy or their doctors strongly recommended they do so. Many people simply feel guilty because of all the calories they piled on over the holidays. Whatever the reason, they feel they need to lose weight and always vow at the start of the new year to do so.
It only makes sense that people choose this time to take a personal oath to lose those unwanted pounds. The new year to them means a fresh start and a chance to really begin achieving their goals. Nothing is going to get in their way and stop them from accomplishing this. It is a chance to slow down and re-focus on what truly matters most in their lives. It's the one time to actually sit down to think about the past twelve months objectively and see where they are now versus last year at the same time. They may ask questions, such as: What did I accomplish and what do I still need to work on? What are my greatest strengths? Where do I need to improve?
It makes perfect sense for people to make goals to lose weight and feel fit. When they are healthy and fit, not only do they look better, they feel better. Fitness is more than just exercise; it triggers people to make a positive change in their lives and it has a constant positive effect on the world around them.
Some may go about this by mapping out a plan for the entire year, highlighting benchmark goals throughout the year. They do this hoping to get themselves ready for the challenge of the upcoming year and really try to convince themselves that this is going to work, hoping the motivational tactics prove to be worthwhile.
Many people will also look for support from friends and family to help motivate them. They will go to people with similar resolutions for the new year to help motivate them and vice versa. Since losing weight is such a common New Year's resolution, it should not be too difficult to find someone to help out.
In conclusion, we all want to look and feel healthy. Despite the troubles and obstacles that may prevent people from staying on some plan to lose weight and stay fit, New Year's Day will always give them a feeling of hope that, even though they have not accomplished their goals for whatever reason, they will always have a chance to start over and try again with, hopefully, better results.
